Comments Much has been said about the regional interest of having an adequate arena complex, which I completely agree with. Given the Ice Track announcement that a large bowl arena is being built in the region, albeit Tecumseh, it begs the question whether the region can sustain 2.

Clearly the proposed Ice Track can and will accommodate both the Spitfires and another upper-tier developmental league team, such as the proposed AHL franchise. To my mind, the arena issue has been resolved. The region needed an arena and now it has one. Windsor need only now concern itself will other ancillary needs within the municipality not met by the Ice Track project.

It would be a pity if this simply boiled down to a clash of egos between municipalities, between hockey clubs, between developers since the taxpayers are the ones unfairly caught in the middle.

Comments Well it is about time. How long have we been wasting time and millions of dollars having consultants and groups tell us what to do and how to do it. The City of Windsor dragged their heals and missed the opportunity years ago to develop a similiar project with Gretzky restaurant because of their lack of commitment and indecisiveness. Having an AHL franchise will just add to the Essex County hockey heritage and perhaps improve the chances of the Spitfires in attracting better calliber players who understand that the next step in their careers may be in the same community. Being near the 401 will be a huge bonus for traffic and travel and increase the areas tourism revenues. Maybe the Rosatis and Toldos should be asked to build us another bridge or tunnel....I'm sure it would get done quicker. Congratulations and Thank You. We are waiting to attend the Grand Opening and many future events held at this 1st Class facility.

Comments Makes sense to me. With a background in both Casino Gaming and Harness Racing, I'm a gung ho supporter of the project. Look forward to the opening.

Comments I think the entire idea and concept is great, they could add one more thing to make it even better, I just hope it works out 85% to plan.

Comments I'm writing this letter to voice my opinion about the city of Windsor voting in favour to move ahead and build their own Arena complex at Wednesday nights meeting. Windsor Mayor and Council should drop this issue, swallow their pride for the time being and instead focus their attention on forging an alliance with the Project Ice Track team. In the long run I believe City Council will gain much more respect for doing the right thing on behalf of the taxpayers. Lets face it, this is not the greatest time to put the community at risk and voters will surely show their displeasure for the current Mayor and administration in the coming elections if yet another large debt is dumped on their shoulders. Windsor was slow to move on this deal and nobody was blindsided so lets stop pointing fingers and do what's fiscally responsible for the city of Windsor.
An AHL team would be an excellent addition to our region and the Spits should embrace it given the added attention it would brin g. The Ice Track Team has from day one called their proposal a "regional" facility and there is still time for Windsor to shine and make a good business decision rather than let emotions take over.

Comments Your big vision enables the Essex County region to realize the credit due. Thanks for encouraging us to do something by not standing idle. I hope all our local and regional politicians take notice of the efforts and work with the same determination your team has to make Windsor-Essex Country a great place to live & raise a family.

Comments The greatest gift this region could have ever received - Christmas comes early this year thanks to the Ice Track. Perfect location, perfect merging of entertainment facilities.

Windsor wasn't deserving of it - great job Tecumseh. Build it - and the Spits will come and bring the AHL team too!

Comments Sorry, I could not list my councillor since I live in Tecumseh...a council which moves forwards and not backwards. Thank you to both the Icetrack and the Tecumseh council for moving the arena to Tecumseh. "If you build it, they will come" How much for season tickets??...lets get this ball rolling....

Comments I think the new location out in the county is a wise decision. The city is growing in an easterly direction and this project will fit in with the population movement.

Comments Good idea. We need jobs in Windsor now that the big three are not reliable. Thank you, this is just what we need.

Comments I think the icetrack is a great idea. I think our area is due for a new arena and the track needs some fresh attension. It's like it doesn't even exist. I would love to maybe even work at the icetrack one day. thank you for coming to up.

Comments This is exactly what Windsor and Essex County needs.

Comments Take Action…help the region, don’t hurt it !

Well, Windsor has lost the arena, racetrack, slot machines and the revenues. The mayor has been caught lying to the public via a letter posted on the city’s own website. Time to put it all behind us…time to move on…time for the Mayor to apologize and time for the Mayor and Council to make some good “common sense” decisions.

How about this 1) Admit that Project Ice Track is an excellent development to enhance Essex County Region as a whole. 2) Support the Project Ice Track as it will bring added tourism, dollars to the region and the city, and yes even further development at the current Raceway site. This is what the regional has been starving for, for a long time 3) Join Project Ice Track, as the Mayor of Tecumseh is inviting by asking what the City of Windsor can do to help make this even a bigger destination for the region. Maybe even throw in a few million to help. Maybe Lakeshore will join the cause as well 4 ) Thank PCR for their interest in the East Side project and send them on their way. 5) Make a decision to build a new double pad arena with community centre that would replace the aging Riverside and Adstoll arenas and never mind the bowl arena. Maybe something like what LaSalle is building 6) Make recommendations to the Spitfires, not to let this opportunity pass by and also join Project Ice Track. Even if an AHL Team might be coming. They could co-exist.

The message is clear to City Council and the Mayor…there are still “outstanding” opportunities to be developed here. Grab them and make things happen, make the right choice. The people of Windsor and the region are watching.
